As my day job, I have worked as an acupuncturist for many years. I’ve had a keen interest in photography for a long time, and did a one-year course with the WEA under local photographer Ian Caird in the early 1980s. I had a darkroom for some time and, like most people, have graduated to digital photography with enthusiasm, although I don’t have any top of the range equipment.
I have been walking one or other of my dogs on Woodthorpe Park since about 1992. I never tire of the park .. there are so many lovely parts to enjoy, and I am particularly drawn up there when the weather is interesting, or the sky is blue and I know there will be some great shadows. Unlike many dog owners, I’m not there every single day but I go frequently. Often it will just be myself and Alfie, sometimes with my friend Ruth and her dog, sometimes with my husband or other friends . One day last Spring, I had been sitting listening to the incredible birdsong you get around the walled gardens, and I found I was singing the words to ‘Perfect Day’ .. it’s such a perfect day, I’m glad I spent it with you .. to the dog. |
I can’t remember when I decided to use my phone to take my first photo, but it will be noticed by those with an eye for photography that some of the pictures are not of the highest quality, and they will have been taken with my first phone camera. I never originally intended that the pictures were for anyone to see but myself, but over the years I realised I had taken many photos and I was accumulating a collection of images that I was quite pleased with. I’ve sometimes tried to re-take pictures that I especially liked, for example the frost shadow of the tree, but it’s impossible to repeat a moment that’s long gone, and I’ve never seen that image again.
I decided I would make a poster with my favourite pictures of the park, some of which are just nice park scenes, and some are pictures that I took a little more trouble about framing, and which I particularly like. I make no claims for artistic or technical excellence! If you would like one, you are welcome to email me at [email protected] |
